Saturday 1/30/21 Through Sunday 1/31/21

MISSING AT SEA

Name:    Arunay Pruthi

Age: 12 Years Old

Cause: Swept into Ocean by Wave

Location: Cowell Ranch Beach, 5 miles south of Half Moon Ba, CA

Time: 3:45 PM

Date: 1/18/21

Clothing: White Shirt, Green Shorts

Website: searchforarunay.org

Narrative: On January 18, 2021 at approximately 1545 (3:45 PM), 12 year-old Arunay Pruthi was swept to sea by a sneaker wave while enjoying a nice day at the beach with his family. Despite the heroic efforts of his family members and others, Arunay was not able to make it back to the beach. He was seen treading water for approximately 15 minutes, and he has not been seen since.

Sea Valor was asked by the family to help assist with the search, and we have spent the past week partnering with other volunteers and professionals to help with the search. Methods include beach combing, helicopters, drones, fixed-wing aircraft, jet skis, RIBs, Sailboats, fishing boats, harbormaster boats, image analysis, and current modeling.

This Saturday and Sunday will be the last major search, so let’s all come together as a community and help this grieving family find their little boy.

What you can do to help:

Sea

Boats: If you have an ocean-worthy boat with an experienced crew, you can inquire with us about joining the Sea Valor ocean search team. Though we appreciate your offer to help, safety is our primary concern, and we do not want anyone who is not familiar with sailing or boating in rough ocean conditions, which would potentially put themselves or their boat in harms way. We need about 12 more boats and their crew to cover the remaining search grids, so if you feel you have the appropriate skills and vessel, please contact a member of Sea Valor at 202-491-6000 to discuss further.

Jet Skis: If you are a trained rescue swimmer/diver with the appropriate credentials (Fire Department, Law Enforcement, Coast Guard, or former Military) and are interested in working with the water safety team to use jet skis (wave runners) to search the sea caves, please call Jeff at 650-218-6023 to discuss further.

Air

Helicopters: There are select spots on the search and rescue helicopters for Saturday and Sunday. If you have extensive experience with search and rescue operations, and would like to fly a 3-4 hour search shift, please call 202-491-6000 to speak with a Sea Valor staff member to discuss further.

Sea Plane: There are select spots on the search and rescue sea plane for Saturday and Sunday. If you have extensive experience with search and rescue operations, and would like to fly a 3-4 hour search shift, please call 202-491-6000 to speak with a Sea Valor staff member to discuss further.

Fixed-wing: If you are an experienced pilot with a minimum of 1000 flight hours, have your own plane, and would like to fly parallel searches between 1-10 miles offshore between Monterey and Point Reyes, please call 202-491-6000 to speak with a Sea Valor staff member to discuss further.

Drones: If you are an experienced drone operator with a part 107 license, and would be interested in using your drone to help with aerial imaging, please call 510-559-0856 to speak with Paul to discuss further.

Land

Beach-combing: If you are interested in joining the land search, please call Samya at 408-420-8059 to discuss further.

Image Analysis: We need more volunteers to help look at the thousands of photos our helicopters, drones, and fixed-wing aircraft have taken. You can do this from home on your own computer and your own timeframe. If you are interested in helping with this, please call Paul at 510-559-0856 to discuss further.

REWARD: The family has offered a financial reward for finding Arunay. However, Sea Valor never has, and never will accept any financial reward of any kind to help find a missing person, especially a child. Please do this out of the goodness of your heart, and not with the hope of receiving a financial reward.

With that said, we know fuel is expensive, and if you would like to be reimbursed for any associated fuel costs, you can submit your fuel receipts for whatever day/s you assist in the search, and Sea Valor will reimburse you for your costs. Please keep in mind that Sea Valor is a non-profit and as such, money is always tight, so please only submit reimbursement requests for the actual about of fuel used during the search.
