Frequently Asked Questions
This should answer some of the most common questions we receive. If you don't see the answer you're looking for, feel free call, text, or email us.
We find the following items to be useful to keep you comfortable and nourished during a Sea Valor Excursion:
- Mask/Face Covering
- Water
- Lunch/snacks
- Sunblock
- SPF chapstick
- Hair ties
- Hat that won’t blow off in the wind
- Sunglasses
Please bring comfortable layers, warm clothes, a waterproof/rain jacket, a hat, and sunglasses. If you want to wear shoes on the boat you can wear something with non-marking soles and good grip, many people like to go barefoot, and it keeps the boat clean.
If you have a tendency to get sea sick, it is possible depending on the conditions. Please talk to your doctor about the best remedy to try for you. Many people take Dramamine, if this is the case it is best to take it 30 minutes before departure, but please discuss with your doctor first. Others have found success with ginger tablets. To avoid sea sickness it is best not go below deck for long periods of time. It also helps to keep your eye on the horizon.
Sea Valor excursions are always free for Veterans, First Responders, Underprivileged Youth, those suffering from PTSD, and those registered in the Sailing for Life program. Otherwise, if you are a friend or guest, donations are not required, however we do ask for a minimum donation of $30 to help keep our program running and help with fuel costs. Your donations support free excursions for those in the Sailing for Life program. There are many costs to keep this program and vessels running, and we are grateful for any donations. There is a donation box below deck with envelopes.
It is really free for Veterans, First Responders, Underprivileged Youth, and those suffering from PTSD, or those registered in the Sailing for Life program. All of us behind Sea Valor are passionate about the healing benefits of ocean excursions and sailing, and we are here to make a difference in people's lives, and ultimately save lives. All the crew and people behind Sea Valor volunteer their time and services to keep this program running, and our greatest hope is to make a difference in people's lives.
We have more resources to come for those who are struggling with PTSD and depression. Please stay tuned.
Everyone on board a boat during a Sea Valor Excursion will be provided with a Personal Flotation Device (PFD), and we will review how they are used in the safety briefing. We do require that you wear them at all times.
As much as you would like! People really get into this activity and at times we have walked away with 1 large bag each or more. It’s always fun to make it a friendly competition for the most trash picked up and the most interesting piece of trash found!
Of course! Know that you are now part of a community at Sea Valor and many that know what you are going through. We do want you to have resources, but the goal is for you to experience the healing benefits of being on the ocean and sailing.
Though it is never a guarantee, we have often seen whales and we hope you get to see them too! We very often see porpoises and seals. Spotting the ocean wildlife is part of the fun!
We are now doing sailing and ocean excursions while adhering to the State and Local covid-19 regulations; face masks or coverings are required. We ask that you wash your hands before coming aboard and avoid touching your face. We have sinks and soap aboard for hand-washing during an excursion, as well as hand sanitizer available.
We ask that everyone adhere to the CDC safety recommendations, and if you have any of the symptoms listed we can reschedule your excursion for when it is safe. All persons on the boat must wear a mask or face covering.
